capitol hill block party, day two →
Another weekend, another music festival. My yesterday experience at the block party benefitted greatly from low expectations. I was generally interested in a lot on the schedule, not specifically excited about anyone in particular, and pretty thoroughly impressed with almost everything (except for the bottleneckish crowd design) and saw a lot of bands that I’d been consistently missing...

Aside from making one of the smartest albums of the year, Greg Gillis is a master of the science of the scene. There was a huge proportion of the audience who, during the hour of his set,…

unlimited enthusiasm, and a metallic owl on stage →
I also saw Harry and the Potters and Neumo’s last night. The few photos I took were terrible, but the show was awesome as usual. Pretty much the only thing you need to know is that their encore ended with a rewritten cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Because the floor was for the all ages part of the crowd, a lot of people went nuts without any twinge of inner conflict. But...

Andrew Bird played at the zoo. Aside from a sock monkey onstage, no non-human animals were featured in the performance. However, there were plenty of songs that referenced animals, including one that rhymed “anemone” with “enemy”.

keithgessen: Finally there’s the larger philosophical problem of comments. I think, generally speaking, that every site gets the commenters it deserves.  I’m not philosophically opposed to comments — I like them a lot on my livejournal — but am too lazy to think of a good way to have comments both here and on the source posts. Plus, there’s something nice and clean...

yes. the daily show on the new yorker cover. →
This just the parts about the New Yorker cover. The whole show is on hulu, which has a really nicest embedding link trick of letting you choose start and stop times, so you can tune in for the Pierce Brosnan interview at the end on your own time. John Stewart gets a little “special commenty”, but the clips of the media coverage alone are worth it. This, though is the win, and...
