weekly review →
I slept through almost all of Monday and Tuesday in surrender to that head cold that seems to be making the rounds and went back to work on Wednesday, bouyed along by an interesting over the counter formulation enough to attend meetings, make phone calls, and accomplish some outstanding tasks.
Last night, then, forgoing the genuinely excellent if inconveniently-scheduled television options...

Just as the scenery is overwhelming, the whole experience here is also a lot to digest. We’ve been without WiFi for the day unable to update you on all the happenings in and around The World Economic Forum. More to come, once I can get connected.
Nonsociety has terrible luck. They’re the only people who can’t get WiFi in Davos during the World Economic...

I managed to snag a cold over the weekend and have spent the last couple days sleeping through podcasts (the World, To the Point, Fresh Air, Left Right & Center) and slurping soup (tip:…
Perhaps procrastinators are perfectionists or they may just be depressed.

question: What iPhone case are you using?

End of an era. I probably haven’t watched this show more than once in the last decade, but it was an old summer standby that reached its peak when Marlena became possessed by the devil [youtube — classic for its mid-nineties morph and mirror chat where the devil tells her, “girlfriend, you are a mess”].
For a good read, set aside a half hour and please see John...
the walkmen →
In the past, I’ve had mixed feelings about the Walkmen, but last night’s show at Neumo’s (with Beach House and Johnny & the Moon) was really good. My pictures, however weren’t. Better to…

Having only three song nominations and none of them “the Wrestler” seemed like the biggest snubbery mystery on all of yesterday’s Academy Award slate. Tom O’Neil looks into the “rule sixteen” for the explanation that only those songs that score an average of at least 8.25 out of 10 among the participating music branch members are eligible to be nominated. Not...

Last night we went to King Cobra and sat under the slowly undulating lights to drink Fat Tire out of cans and bask in the glow of a new administration. The bar played the ABC coverage of the Neighborhood Ball on the big screen but only cut to the live audio during Michelle and Barack’s first dance to a Beyoncee serenade. The rest of the A-list performances had house rock played over them,...
Remember When Biden Was President? [Washington... →
with some really tortured Constitutional logic you can squint and imagine that there was a minute yesterday when Condoleeza Rice and another two when Joe Biden Rice was acting president.

I don’t remember ever even thinking about watching an inauguration, let alone planning to wake up by 7 am to get ready to watch one. Yet, that’s what I’m doing for tomorrow — the idea is to go to Spitfire before 8 to try to get a seat and head elsewhere if it’s too crowded. Either way, it will be less cold and with a better view than if I was in DC. Possibly less...
soliloquy for dodgeball →
Rick’s essential and angry take on the dodgeball’s unjust demise. I read this just before fighting with the Brightkite iPhone application, which (aside from the fact that no one in Seattle uses Brightkite) demonstrated its ineffectiveness by being unable to find me or recognize that a search for linda’s meant “Linda’s Tavern”.

Maureen Ryan’s sprawling set of interviews reveal that, unlike the cylons, the BSG writers didn’t really have a plan from the beginning. But maybe they do now. There’s some pretty good stuff in here about Olmos and filming this in the early hours of the writers strike, too.
