Last week, I took a detour from Schipol to Rotterdam and stopped in Amsterdam. I was glad I did: the square at Nieuwmarkt was surrounded by people drinking at bars on a sunny weekday afternoon. I locked up my bags, had a little walk, and a quick drink before getting back to the train.
