Pitchfork lists their top 500 singles of 2000-2009 and the list is pretty quibble-free (well, “Since U Been Gone” is number 21; so maybe I’d ditch R. Kelly…). If it were a “that’s what I call indie music” disc, I’d pump up those jams.
On the right, their top songs of the decade, twelve of which were also listed as the top 100 of 2000-2004 (ranks & arrows from left). Three songs that went unnoticed in the mid-decade round-up (green text) made it all the way into this Top 20. Only five songs released after 2005 (blue text) wound up at the top of the heap.
Of note, OutKast hold on to their Pitchfork Song of the new Millennium Trophy and Arcade Fire’s “Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)” catapults all the way from 85th into the top 10.
