Oscar Snubs: Why the Wild Things Aren’t Nominated [Vanity Fair]
I really liked Wild Things (and, while we’re confessing, Away We Go, too), but Michael Hogan is right that the biggest problem with the movie was that there was no way that it could live up to the incredible Arcade Fire scored tear-jerking joy and nostalgia overload trailer (which was maybe the best two minutes of advertising produced all year).
That said, even if the slowly paced sad movie didn’t work for you (I can accept this), I can’t comprehend how those phenomenal monsters didn’t merit a visual effects mention. Maybe it’s the same set of arcane rules that kept Karen O out of contention for her original songs.
