Look: I can’t speak to her motivations, and I don’t know what it’s like being on a date with her at a restaurant, but my friend Kathryn takes the loveliest photos of food and live bands. I have a print of hers in my office, and I catch my breath every morning when I come in and see it. I don’t know the first thing about the band in the picture; never heard their music. But Kathryn was there and she captured a wonderful little moment and I’m thankful for it. Her lugging that camera around brings art into my life.
The part that I love most about this justification is that the print he’s talking about is a photo from a show that I was at, probably taken just a few feet away from me, where I also took one of my favorite band photos of that year [flickr] even though it turned out kind of wrong.
